OUR FATHER WHO GAVE THE SPIRIT OF GRACE AND SUPPLICATION TO OPEN THE EYES OF THOSE WHO DO NOT SEE
The book of Zachariah chapter 12 verses 10 - 14 says this;
10 “And I will pour on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of grace and supplication; then they will look on Me whom they pierced. Yes, they will mourn for Him as one mourns for his only son, and grieve for Him as one grieves for a firstborn. 11 In that day there shall be a great mourning in Jerusalem, like the mourning at Hadad Rimmon in the plain of Megiddo. 12 And the land shall mourn, every family by itself: the family of the house of David by itself, and their wives by themselves; the family of the house of Nathan by itself, and their wives by themselves; 13 the family of the house of Levi by itself, and their wives by themselves; the family of Shimei by itself, and their wives by themselves; 14 all the families that remain, every family by itself, and their wives by themselves.
The Prophet Zachariah, looking into the distant future from his time, saw a time when the Spirit of grace and supplication would be poured out on the children of Israel and a deep mourning would settle in the land where the children of Israel would look upon the One they pierced and realize whom it was that they rejected and each individual would grieve for Him the way one would grieve at the death of a first born son.
This passage is referenced in the book of John chapter 19 verses 36 - 37 where the Lord Jesus, while on the cross, had to be taken down because the next day was the Sabbath day and in order to do so, they pierced Him in the chest to verify that He was dead. The apostle John wrote that this event was the fufilment of the prophecy found in Zachariah chapter 12 verse 10.
36 These things happened so that the scripture would be fulfilled: “Not one of his bones will be broken,” 37 and, as another scripture says, “They will look on the one they have pierced.”
Amen.
