OUR FATHER WHO EXPECTS HIS SONS TO GROW TO BE ABLE TO HANDLE THE WORD OF RIGHTEOUSNESS

The writer of Hebrews, at the end of the previous passage, laments the dullness of the audience´s ears as the reason why the priesthood of Melchizedek and the correspondence with the priesthood of Christ could not be explained to them.

He also laments the fact that the people to whom he was writing to explain the basics of doctrine should have already been teachers but instead  were like babies who needed to be suckled. In their state, they were not prepared to handle the word of righteousness which required that they would have, through their graduating to solid food,  be able to use their senses to disern both what was good and evil.

12 For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first principles of the oracles of God; and you have come to need milk and not solid food. 13 For everyone who partakes only of milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, for he is a babe. 14 But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

Amen
